Rosario Castellanos fue una de las principales escritoras del siglo XX mexicano y del llamado Boom Latinoamericano. Autora de una vasta obra narrativa, dramática y poética, es conocida principalmente por sus novelas de tinte indigenista. A Castellanos le preocupaban varios temas desde la perspectiva feminista, como la poca presencia y reconocimiento de las mujeres en el ámbito cultural. Lección de cocina forma parte de su serie de relatos urbanos Álbum de familia, en el que trata ambientes urbanos donde la situación de las mujeres es especialmente importante. La actriz Daniela Contreras interpreta esta pieza.
